Dr. CARL BALITA is the President and CEO of the DR. CARL BALITA PRODUCTIONS or CBP. Prior to that, Dr. Carl Balita produced Narsin 2007. In 2020, the first Video Home Festival (VHF) was launched during the peak of pandemic to support the filmmakers during lockdown.
Dubbed as the “Pambansang Reviewer,” Dr. Carl Balita leads the leading and dominating review center in the country, the Dr. Carl E. Balita Review Center, the first and only ISO 9001:2015-certified business of its kind. But even before becoming one of the esteemed educators in the academe, he has been passionate about the arts and a staunch supporter of the showbiz industry. He produces records, concerts, and films. He was one of the pioneering producers in the “Tulong Taal” concert in 2020 along with Isay Alvarez, Robert Seña, and Vehnee Saturno for the rehabilitation of the communities in Taal who were affected by the volcano eruption. He also established the CBRC Dream Theater in 2018. It is a microcinema that screens local films only.
This 2023, Dr. Carl Balita Productions teams up with the PHILIPPINE NURSES ASSOCIATION (PNA) to release the groundbreaking film about nurses entitled Siglo ng Kalinga in celebration of the 100 years of PNA.
Siglo ng Kalinga will provide a closer look at the sacrifices of the nursing heroes who dedicated their lives to the Filipinos throughout the years. Loosely based on the life and works of the founder of the PNA Anastacia Giron Tupas, the film is directed by the award-winning filmmaker, LEMUEL C. LORCA, and written by ARCHIE DEL MUNDO.
“Walang Hanggang Kalinga,” the theme song of the movie, is performed by Ms. KUH LEDESMA and Dr. Carl Balita.
Sandaang taong nang walang hanggang kalinga mula sa Dr. Carl Balita Productions at Philippine Nurses Association.
LEMUEL C. LORCA is an award-winning filmmaker from Mauban, Quezon. He is a product of San Sebastian College and Mowelfund Film Institute. A Gawad Urian nominee and a Cine Filipino awardee, he has been a writer, director, producer, editor for television and films for over 2 decades now.
His directorial debut was for an independently-produced film entitled Bola. He soon directed a string of festival darlings, critically-acclaimed, and award-winning films like Cinemalaya’s Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino (2012); QCinema International Film Festival’s Mauban: Ang Resiko (2014) and Water Lemon (2015); Echorsis (2015); and the 2nd CineFilipino Film Festival’s Best Film, Ned’s Project(2016).
His most travelled film, Maestra(2017) produced by Dr. Carl Balita Productions, made the rounds in 20 different festivals abroad, receiving different nominations and awards for major categories.
Lem is an “actor’s director.” He collaborates with his actors as they build the film character's background together. Under his guidance, he wants them to fly and take the characters into the sky as far as they can go. Thus, most of his actors have won in different acting categories aside from the acting nominations they received such as Angeli Bayani, Anna Luna, and Gloria Sevilla for Maestra; Angeli Bayani and Max Eigenmann for Ned’s Project; Joross Gamboa for Intoy Syokoy; Alessandra De Rossi and Menggie Cobarrubias for Mauban; Tessie Tomas and Lou Veloso for Water Lemon.
His latest film, Siglo ng Kalinga, is another groundbreaking film based on the works of Anastacia Giron Tupas, the founder of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA), which features an all nurses cast. It is produced by Dr. Carl Balita Productions and the PNA in celebration of the PNA’s 100 years.
Being a true blue Quezonian, expect Lem to be able to cook a mean "habhab," their native noodles, and have the gut to down you with Mauban's native wine from palm, the NipaNog.
ARCHIE DEL MUNDO has been in the independent film industry for over a decade and a half. He has written screenplays, and directed, and produced films for various productions. He also writes corporate ads, shows, and documentaries. He has postgraduate studies in English, Literature, and Linguistics. He has been to 30 Philippine provinces and their beautiful destinations but has only been abroad once. Currently, he is the executive director of the Dreamanila International Film Festival.
